22-med was launched on April 22, 2024, "Earth Day." The Mediterranean is fragmented by war. Divided by religious identities. Troubled by climate upheavals. We have set ourselves the ambitious goal of discovering, understanding, and combining all viewpoints from within the 22 countries that border its shores. Journalists, scientists, writers, and artists write in 11 languages, in search of "A Whole World in Common." More than 50,000 of you have already discovered this new media outlet in the Mediterranean space. Thank you!
Anniversaries are meant to be celebrated! 22-med and the Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean (MUCEM) located in Marseille - in partnership with Les Nouvelles Rencontres d’Averroès invite you to the premiere of the documentary film "The Thousand and One Days of Hajj Edmond," this Monday, March 31, from 6 PM to 9:30 PM, at the Mucem auditorium.
Parallel Tragedies
Fifteen years ago, Moroccan writer Edmond Amran El Maleh, known as Hajj Edmond, passed away. This philosopher and scholar, born in 1917 into a wealthy Jewish merchant family from Essaouira, was also a passionate visual arts enthusiast, a former communist activist, and a proponent of Morocco's independence. He lived through the century haunted by two parallel tragedies: the departure of Jews from Morocco and the exodus of Palestinians uprooted from their land. It is to this man that Simone Bitton dedicates her documentary.
Discussions
The screening of the documentary will be followed by a debate featuring the director, Simone Bitton, anthropologist Mohamed Tozy, journalist Nathania Cahen, and Thierry Fabre, editorial advisor of 22-med.
Note, free access subject to available seating.
