The manifesto

The Mediterranean, the region of the world most affected by climate change

For 500 million inhabitants, a social, economic, and environmental upheaval is looming. Each of the countries on the shores of the Mediterranean – which according to the IPCC projections could become a dead sea by 2050 – approaches this threat and its issues through its societal and technological lens. These are experiences and visions that can enrich one another.

"Inhale, Marcelle takes over the relay"

22M is published by a pioneering solutions media: Marcelle. This solutions media, which appeared in the fall of 2018, is the culmination of a year of reflections, exchanges, and cross-fertilization of expertise (among journalists, business leaders, teachers, politicians, etc.) to design a vector as relevant and sustainable as possible to promote actions and initiatives related to the "common good." 50 founding members, gathered within the general interest association "MARCELLE ET NOUS," financed the launch of an original type of press at the time, as it was 100% dedicated to solutions and published a single article per day.

An innovative editorial line

It deals with subjects that have an impact on the individual, society, and the environment. It relays achievements or initiatives from companies, associations, foundations, collectives, or individuals, committed and "makers" regardless of who they are. It analyzes feedback on proven, inspiring devices that can be deciphered, criticized, duplicated. The articles are written by journalists working for other media – local, regional, or national. They want to take their time, break away from the infernal mechanics of hard news, highlight subjects that are close to their hearts and have meaning, utility, and general interest behind them.

AI abolishes language barriers. Let’s take advantage of it!

22M presents itself as a Mediterranean version of Marcelle’s editorial vision. A digital and multilingual media. 22? That’s the number of countries involved and, potentially, of corresponding journalists and languages. To coincide with the business days of the different countries, one article will be published online every day, from Monday to Thursday. The different journalists write in their own language. They also oversee the translations of the other articles (done with artificial intelligence). Their payment complies with the scales of the collective agreement of the French daily press.

In addition to field reports, a scientific platform gives a voice to those who seek in order to open up other perspectives. It also results in a digestible summary for 10 to 12-year-olds (intergenerational link, ease of understanding for all) produced by specialists. AI is also used here, as an illustration. The image is aimed at the upcoming generation, the children. It is a work signed by Stephan Muntaner that generates an NFT.

This column is realized in partnership with NEEDE, a French non-profit organization that supports the Mediterranean regions and their populations in finding effective and concrete solutions to the major challenges of climate change and ecological transition. NEEDE also holds the UNESCO chair "Education for Environmental Transition in the Mediterranean".

A virtuous ecosystem

A media is addressing… readers. The platform allows to choose the language of your choice. Many articles are freely accessible thanks to sponsorships, but readers are invited to subscribe, as information has a cost. Each pays their subscription in their original currency.

The themes addressed are sponsored by structures that adhere to the spirit and approach. Patrons from both the public and private sectors are involved in promoting the dissemination of 22M, through free reading of articles and the granting of targeted subscriptions. They also participate in the organized events because meeting each other is essential! Indeed, like MARCELLE, 22M aims to bring communities together through local events to highlight published initiatives, award remarkable projects, and give them visibility. An opportunity for meetings, networking, and creating connections between those who act, react, and interact.
